It was supposed to rain this afternoon. So yesterday I forced myself to bike in the cold wind (17 miles or so, instead of the 20+ I had hoped, the wind was killing me), and today I swam indoors in a pool. Came home to 55 degrees (F) and lovely breeze, perfect biking weather. *headdesk*

Tomorrow is Ork and then writer's group, so there will (probably) be no work out. Sunday it's supposed to rain or snow or both in the morning, but who knows. The Irish Arts Center is having their open house, and I'm as yet undecided whether I will go. I'm not in dance classes this spring, and neither my whistle nor bodhran class is performing. So I guess I'll see what time I get up Sunday, and what the weather is, and which palm sunday service I decide to go to. On Monday if it's nice I can bike while my corned beef and cabbage cooks :)

I need a new LJ layout...

Slept till noon *blushes*, but in my defense yest was a very long day - running to see patients before 10AM staff meeting, then running back out after twelve to see 6 more patients, including an admission at the dreaded towers. Run home, dump stuff, drive to commuter parking, hop on subway to get into town for run, and.... sit. Under river. Move ten feet. Sit. Lather, rinse, repeat. Finally get to Times Sq, and the platform was already so crowded was obvious there hadn't been a train in awhile. *le sigh*. Managed to assert aggressive New Yorker-ness and squish on the first one that came, and got to the run to find everyone already gone.

Did the whole workout though, for the most part (read: one slight shortcut *whistles innocently*) and managed to get back while people were still stretching. Went for pizza with the gang which was much fun, and got home a bit after ten. Finished my paperwork which had been dumped before, and discovered that MI5's new series made it's premiere on BBCA. Watched the first ep repeated at 11, was hooked, so watched the midnite ep, and then the first one again at one. Even outlasted [livejournal.com profile] katstale :O.

So, today's plan: get to store and procure currants for soda bread. Bake soda bread. Go for bike ride and attempt 20 miles. (though legs are sore from last nite so we shall see...) Be back, showered, dressed and with bread sliced and ready to go on the 6:30 train to Fellowship Group.

*synchronizes watch*
*hums Mission Impossible theme*

I've got five hours.

The weather made this weekend a sucky one for workouts. Yesterday between the torrential rain, fog, and wind that I could feel pushing even Jumper One, there was no way I was going outside after Ork. Did a Brick at the gym, sixty min on the bike and thirty on the treadmill. My knees were not too thrilled that I wanted them to run again today though, and then my entire respiratory system rebelled against the wind, so just barely managed forty five minutes and then walked back home. Tomorrow is swim which should make legs happy, and sinuses will get flushed out with chlorine. Yum.

Otherwise, weekend has been relaxing for a change. Caught up on books and tv, SGA finale (argh) and Torchwood (*hearts*), now watching Blood Ties that I procured ages ago. I entirely blame my writer's group, after protracted vampire discussions.

Bought my book club book and HP5 from Amazon using my latest GC. May be joining another book club, b/c I totally don't have enough books to read. *eyes pile falling on the floor*. And i need to step away from the Armitage Army forums and reading HP fics and finish my Lantis one...

Among other things.

Tonite is the first evening in about two weeks I've been home and had the house to myself. Ahhhhh :) So am watching POTC3, which I picked up in Targey today. All this water is going to give me plenty incentive to do my swim workout tomorrow. Too bad Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom won't be cavorting about in my gym's pool. Now there's an image tho, yes?

I'm at the halfway point in my triathlon training, and just filled out the recommittment paperwork. So if anyone was waiting for a closer date to support me, now would be a very good time :) I've updated the page a bit, and I'll have my mom take some pics of me with the bike Easter weekend, seeing as she did such a good job over Christmas. Barring a snowstorm or something, which given the weather lately is a possibility. There will be no swimsuit pictures.

I'm up to an hour running, still fairly slowly, swimming half mile in about 25 min, and biking for nearly two hours. Did one hour 50 min today, including stop lights and carrying the bike up and down the steps to the park. So, still have quite a ways to go, but when I look back to December when I could barely run five minutes, hadn't been on a bike in years, and had never learned to swim properly and efficiently (riding the waves at Jones Beach is not considered efficient), I've come quite a ways as well!

I have pretty much all my gear, and filled out the papers today for the (gulp) wetsuit. Had to give up and buy a proper swimsuit tho - the two old ones I've been using up at the pool are so stretched out, I feel like I'm going to float out of them at any second. But I found a suit on LL Bean for the exact price of the gift card I got for Christmas. So just had to pay shipping and tax. Hopefully it will arrive in time for Monday's group swim. And hopefully my old one will stay put on tomorrow's swim. unless Johnny and Orlando *are* there...

On the writing front, started an SGA fic, which at the moment is all dialog and needs to be fleshed out. Perhaps will be inspired to write during commercials tomorrow nite. Now, I'm just going to finish watching Pirates and then read some more Harry Potter fic.

From tri coaches email today:

You will soon receive a separate email with the rules governing triathlons, including no nudity in the transition area (at 35 degrees, this is highly unlikely) and no drafting on the bike. More on this later.

If I may quote Lorne: "I was thinking that might be wise..."

Swam in my new tri shorts last nite, and they weren't half bad. I already know I can both bike and run in them, so should be all set. I got some more gear from the online bike shop I like, but seems when I was checking out I deleted the drink powders from my shopping cart instead of the camelback pouch I had replaced with a lumbar pack. So now I have two packs. Am considering whether to go through the trouble of sending the camelback pouch back, or keeping both and seeing which I like better when actually on the bike. The lumbar pack is good for hiking anyway, short hikes when all I need is some water and trail mix and don't want to carry a full backpack, I'd been thinking about picking one up for awhile.

Book club last nite, and then choir practice this am and writer's group this afternoon, which drifted into evening and a long fantasy/horror discussion over dumplings. Actually read through several chapters of my nano novel earlier, and am in the mood to write, but have to get up early tomorrow to sing, so will prob just finish watching Lantis and go to bed...

There was nothing in the fine print about them doing whack-a-mole at us during the swim!!

We were supposed to be getting snow, sleet and rain as per the panicked Fox news report last nite. *peers out window at the dry(ish) ground* Mmmmhmmm.

Anyway, our tri coaches told us that since the weather has been bad on Saturdays we are given a dispensation from group swim and run training if the weather is nice enough to get out on the bike, as we really need to put in the time there. So yest I finished by 4, and was able to get out on the bike in the lovely setting sun for over an hour. Not sure how many miles I did, but somewhere in the range of 8-10. The cages work great, but are a little tricky to get back into quick, so didn't use them till I got to the park. Bought some more stuff on Nashbar - a lumbar pack, gels and powders, and the tire lever I forgot to get last time.

Skipped swim practice b/c of the above mentioned dispensation, so was home to cramp TehJerry's style. Made him sit through Connor Chronicles, which is apparently ending next week. *headdesk* Guess this means I won't have to field anymore questions as to where Schwarzenegger is.

Today I need to get in a swim after Ork and then head into city for whistle and drum class. Have been practicing whistle much this weekend, as CreepyGuy is back upstairs, but this week's tune I am just not getting. I shall be facing the music tonite, literally *g*
First off, we had bbq last nite, and a resturant up in Harlem called Dinosaur BBQ. In case anyone doesn't believe you can get real BBQ in NY, i took pics. If you still don't believe me, have a whiff at the leftovers in my fridge ;) Only ate half my meal so I could get dessert. Mmmmm peanut butter pie!

Today I had big plans to go on a nice long bike ride. Started out well, sky was blue, temp was warm. TehJerry and I managed to get the cages on the pedals, tho his drill wasn't powerful enough to drill through the frame, so couldn't get the second water bottle holder and pump holders on. So took off for my ride, the cages worked great. Then after about six minutes, the chain fell off. *headdesk*. Back to house, TehJerry fixed the chain, and then storm clouds closed in. So I gave up and went to the gym. Did stationary bike for 1.5 hours, juuuuuuuuuuuuust shy of the 25 miles I need.

Came back and herein lies the Great Success - completed my first experimental sewing project, including breaking my first needle. *bows* Piccies here.

Now to eat my bangers and mash (the bangers being turkey franks) and watch Connor Chronicles while attempting to finish fic. If I succeed, I will have accomplished almost everything I wanted to this weekend.

That would be my legs, aka Jello.

I did my first Brick session today. Brick means bike then run. The B and R are supposed to be capitalized, but my LJ client software keeps correcting me. I had to do it indoors on stationary bike and treadmill, because outside it's in the 20's with high winds and gusts of snow. Ten minute warm up run, then one hour bike, then twenty minute run. BTW Wizard Rock is great workout music. The first couple of minutes back on the treadmill after the bike? O.M.G. Did it tho :)

After, went up to SUNY Purchase to see the Trinity Irish Dance Company, who my legs were quite happy to watch. They were awesome, as were the musicians playing with them. I bought a CD from the piper/flute player. Which brings my total music purchases this weekend to four albums. Perhaps I should do a year of no music and book shopping.

Jumper One got his baptism by fire, driving across the Whitestone Bridge during a snow squall. He did admirably well, after his driver calmed down *g*.

I am now sitting with my feet up in front of the TV, listening to the wind outside. Fortunately the stiff neck I was having all week seems to be finally deded with a few aleve and a couple nites of sleeping on a heating pad :)
I hate group training.

I love group training.

Group training is to the triathlon what write ins are to NaNoWriMo. Being surrounded by others working furiously makes me work more furiously myself, and push myself way harder than I will alone. Tonite we went from Columbus Circle up to the southwest corner of the reservoir and back down for a "warm up". Then it was across the park and up the east side climbing Cat Hill to Cleopatra's Needle. (Apparently Cleo did much sewing, as there's one of those in London too. And possibly in Egypt?). Back down, and then turn right around and climb Cat Hill again. The masochists advanced people did it four times. Two was enough for me and my running partner, and then we took a slight detour on the way back, missing the turn on 72nd St, which we decided added at least a mile to our run *nods*.

It was about 70 degrees (F) in NY today, and I can confirm that Jumper One's AC works. I ran in the thin tights I got in London, and a short sleeve shirt. It was raining when we started, which felt great. It also washed most of the ashes off my forehead, but I have been assured my immortal soul is in no peril. For more on Ash Wed, can check my blog post. ([livejournal.com profile] theyllek, I remembered this year!!)

Am off tomorrow, but have a head/neck ache for the past few days, probably because of the weather, so I think I will take some advil PM and crash. Perhaps my writer's group on Sat will inspire me to do some non-blog writing...

Today as ambitiously planned I got up to run :) Had breakfast a little after seven and there were only two people in the breakfast room with me. They had nutella! *happy dance*

Fortified with coffee, muesli and nutella I put on shorts b/c it was 51 degrees and I knew I'd roast in my fleece lined running tights, and proceeded to Hyde Park. I ran a loop along the long water, past the Diana fountain, the Peter Pan statue, and turned around at the statue of Queen Vic, who regally waved her scepter and shouted "Faster, Yank!" I fear my speed has not improved, but i did pass 50 minutes today. Only b/c I made a slight detour on the way back b/c the hotel tried to hide.

Showered, and went to meet [livejournal.com profile] sgcgategirl and [livejournal.com profile] girrlkitty at paddington. We came back, they checked in, and then we made the obligatory Americans' first day in Britain stop at Starbucks. From there we went to Westminster, saw the abbey and I took communion which was very nice. Because it was raining again the next stop was a sporting goods store where Dee got a backpack, Toni a raincoat and I found a pair of thin capri tights on sale to run in if the weather persist in the 50's. Also will be better for spring back home b/c i get overheated so easily. They have zip pocket in the back too, for tissues and keys if I don';t have my jacket.

We had some lunch then went to the national gallery, did the cultured thing, and then ducked in Waterstones where i got two more books *blushes*. I really need to finish Green Angel Tower so I can started one of the new ones.

Back to the room, and then off to a scottish pub called the Argyll Arms for dinner. I've now had each of the pub foods I love, just didn't have the chance to have yorkshire pudding when I was up north.

Tea and biccies and then off to bed :) Tomorrow we're going to head to Leicester Sq first thing and see if we can get theater tickets. I didn't upload pics b/c didn't take many - am trying not to take too many pics of Big Ben I already have a million of.

Also it looks like tonite and tomorrow are a bust for writing - if nothing else I'll try to get the fic done when I get home!

Or possibly 4.2. I heard conflicting measurements, so am going with the bigger one. Up from Columbus Circle, to and around the reservoir, and back. Not too shabby for someone who is not a runner. It helped that I actually found someone else as slow as me to run with!

4 months left to add on the last 1.5 mile, pick up the pace, and of course add in the bike and swim, but I am starting to feel like I can really do this.

*sits back with celebratory glass of wine*

Two more Ork days!!

Tho I am going to need to buy a new car as soon as I get back from vacation...

Copied from my post on the NanoWrimo site, my Big Fun Scary Goals for 2008:

1. Fill in the Grand Canyon of Plot, and finish my nano novel.
2. Complete a triathlon for Team in Training.
3. Learn to use my new sewing machine, and make something I can wear outside the house.
4. Play the tin whistle in an outside the classroom setting.
5. Pick a church and stick with it.
6. Marry Richard Armitage. (oops, how did that one get in there??)

Aside from those, today marks day one of my Year of No Clothes Shopping.

And also day one of Fic Frenzy, and I have a Robin Hood Fic bunny trying to eat its way out of my brain. 3.5 hours left to write today, so you know where I'll be :D
It is two days until the next [livejournal.com profile] ficfrenzy. In order to raise money for my Team in Training Triathlon, anyone who sponsors me during the month of January may prompt a fic of their choosing, and I will write it :)

Fandoms:

Robin Hood (BBC)
Stargate Atlantis
Stargate SG1
Harry Potter
Star Trek Enterprise (other treks possible, but might be rusty)

As I am avoiding my f-list so as to avoid RH spoilers *hugs [livejournal.com profile] literatuer*, I shall bore you all with athletic details instead. Today I took TehJerry's bike (from now on it shall be known as my Nimbus2000 *g*) to the park down the street for my first solo ride. Have not had a chance to do the tweaks/repairs yet, but figured still better than nothing. Managed to get to the park, including crossing the Clearview, without getting killed. *bows* The trail along the bay is relatively flat, but there is a big hill leading to and from that I managed to climb. *bows again*. Thurs have conned TehJerry into going with me to a bike shop to get the new tires and stuff, so we can put the bike in the back of his SUV instead of LGM. :)

Right, now to shower and go to church like a good girl. Gizzie will be waiting for me when I get home!
This am I tried an experiment, after at least three people said to me "oh is it your asthma?" when I mentioned my endurance sucked, even tho I didn't feel like I was wheezing. Today before we started the group run I used my inhaler anyway. Voila - kept up with people (ok the slowpokes, but still) the whole time. So I guess I will be doing that from now on, barring a congressional hearing.

More later *yawn*. I need a nap.

after my run today (yes I did it, and even climbed three wee hills. Tho my Ipod battery died halfway and I was using it for a clock so not sure my run was a full thirty minutes) mom and I went down to the beach and she took some pics of my in my running gear.

Pics are here.

Right, back to Simpsons' Monopoly.

Managed to make the group run last nite even tho was raining, and had just had the usual monthly hyper two hour meeting with Number 4, and had not touched my admission paperOrk.

*bows*

Only "hard core" people showed up, meaning the coaches, the mentors, and a few wee idiots like me. *g*. We did a 36 minute run and they spared us the core exercises in mud puddles. Central Park is actually very pretty in the rain at night. We ran from Columbus Circle up past the Met and back. Well, others got further, but I was quite happy with that. Brought up the rear the whole time, but kept others in my sites (helped that the coaches kept dropping back to check on me *g*) and I figure all the other slow pokes didn't bother to come out.

Today tho - I am *beat*. I have two admissions and haven't even done yesterdays. And am already stressed about tomorrow b/c have dinner plans at 5:30 and Fridays are traditionally hellish. Tonite also I must swim. Thankfully my fellowship group won't meet till next year so I can come home and try to crash before I get my second wind at 11!

Last nite I ran for thirty minutes without stopping. ok running might be a rather strong word, but the feets were moving and it wasn't walking. No wheezing either, but I can verify my sinuses were clear. Passed at least one person too. *bows* After, our coach had us stretching and doing core exercises on the lovely muddy central park ground because "we are not sport club pansies but real athletes who can get dirty." LOL. I couldn't quite place his accent but I think he is from New Zealand b/c he made reference to that Maori battle dance thing (hakka was it, [livejournal.com profile] arrietty?)

Today I feel like I'm coming down with another cold *headdesk*, but I am off so am drinking my water with lemon, and just have to run to the drug store (in between snow "events") and wash my work out gear before heading off to our company's holiday party tonite.
